
Why do we not have deer farms and serve deer meat at restaurants all across the country? Is it a FDA issue?
They could be tagged with a color code for year of harvest and allowed to rome about on vast, fenced in farmland.
There are “deer farms” of a sort. These are “non-native” deer in the US. The deer are often used to populate private hunting clubs or small private zoos. This is not a business model I could support since the “hunting clubs” are no more than staged killing events.
As for captive breeding of native game species, those are usually regulated by state fish and game departments. I think economics is the largest factor limiting such operations.
