What is Leroy Neiman Nebraska Suite Artists Proof Worth?
My grandmother possesses the original Coach Devaney A/P. Signed by Leroy Neiman, from the Nebraska Suite. It is matted and framed. About how much would this be worth? Also, I understand that the regular limited edition serigraph is worth about $3,500. This is the original artists proof, does that make it worth more??? Thank You so much!!!
Here is a picture of the serigraph-not the signed artists proof that my grandmother has. http://www.leroyneiman.com/merchant.ihtml?pid=295&lastcatid=40&step=4
(yes she does know, she actually was asking my help to find what it was worth, she would like to sell it)
“Collectors also usually prefer final artist’s proofs even when they are identical to the main edition; if nothing else the print may have been presented to a friend by the artist. Prints are generally sold as limited editions, with a print being cheaper than a drawing or painting because the artist/gallery makes more money by selling multiples. An artist’s proof has special value because of its extra rarity and its possible differences from the “standard” print, factors that are often reflected in its price.”
The Nebraska numbered limited edition of your print is available at this site for $2,500.00

You might want to call or emial one of the above galleries and tell them waht you’ve got. I’m sure that they will charge a hefty commision.
Realize that the art market is really soft right now.
If you don’t need the money right now just hold tight and wait for the art market to recover.
I tried to sell a painting appraised at the same value as a paintings by the same artist that sold for $900,000.00 and $2,400,000.00 the year before the crash. High bid on mine did not even come close to the $400,000.00 minimum. Some of my other paintings were also passed at Christies last year failing to come anywhere near what they would have fetched just three years ago. This is a great time to be buying art, not selling it. A close friend of mine recently bought an wonderful piece at a third of what it sold for four years ago.
Good luck
Just sit back and enjoy your art before you do decide to sell it some day.
